Reminiscing About Summer Jobs

By Jenny Davis

The first summer job I had was pulling weeds from my mom’s garden. I grew up on a farm and our garden was always a swatch of land in the corner of a field located a mile or so from our house.

I would slather on the bug spray (should have grabbed the sunscreen as well) and head out on the 4-wheeler (that’s Minnesotan for all-terrain vehicle) to pick weeds for as long as I could possibly stand it until I was done. My payment for picking weeds was allowance back into the house. Just kidding. Mom wasn’t that hard on me. Except for the times that I mistook her fledgling carrots for weeds. Oops. Sorry Mom.

To this day I have not had my own vegetable garden.

Tell me about one of your summer jobs. The good, the bad, the sunburn.

Hello Partners! We’re working on a new feature for The Partner Channel Magazine and looking for your input. What are you reading right now? What books do you have on your list? What did you just finish reading? Please include your name, company name, book title, and author name in your reply. Thanks!

Saved by The List!

By Jenny Davis

The best compliments come from happy customers.

This gal was a Convergence attendee who stopped by our booth to pick up a copy of The List: Handbook. Jane said the customer did a quick scan while still standing in our booth, and when she found what she was looking for, she looked up at Jane and said, “Are these guys here?”

Turns out those guys (Blue Moon Industries) were in the next row over. The customer ran over to Blue Moon’s booth and then later came back to thank Jane for helping facilitate the meeting via The List, which is when Smart Jane asked if the customer would share her kudos with you via our Flip camcorder.

Flood 2009 Update

By Jenny Davis

It’s been quite the week here in the Red River Valley. Posted below are some links to incredible stories, photos, and streamed radio coverage of Flood 2009. While there are a bunch of national media covering Flood 2009 as well (and we thank them for that!), the links posted below are from local sources.

  • NEW! There are approximately 3.5 million sandbags holding back the Red River right now. See what 3.5 million sand bags looks like.
  • Streamed Audio Coverage at KFGO (The Mighty 790 has 24/7 coverage and features live calls from residents.)
  • Multiple Daily Updates at InForum (The online version of our daily newspaper features great photos, news, and interviews with local officials and residents.)
  • Video Montages here and here (These montages were produced with national, local, and personal photos and video footage. Oh heck, view all nine montages here.)
  • Okay, I’m breaking the local rule for this article from CNN contributor Bob Greene.

While families have lost their homes, we are fortunate that no lives have been lost due to the floodwaters. The spirit of the Fargo-Moorhead community is absolutely awesome and the outpouring of support from people across the nation has been amazing.

If you’re interested in helping out, our best suggestion would be to make a donation to the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. Both organizations have been instrumental in supporting our community this past week and for many weeks to come.
