My marketing journey began when I needed to officially select a major. At the time, there were no designated advisers to the ‘undecided’ group. Marketing seemed general enough, so I selected it with the thought that I could always change it later, though I never did.
As a recent college graduate it can be unnerving to transition to a professional environment. I applied to Vicinity Manufacturing with the hopes to polish my networking skills and put some tangible real-world experience onto my resume during my senior year at Kennesaw State University. Since joining in August of 2012, I have far surpassed my goals.

When Bethany asked those in The Genius Series to write this essay, I had such a hard time to think about how to write about my journey as a marketer. I’d like to say I knew I wanted to have a career in marketing when I was in college, but that wasn’t the case. I was going to school to be a teacher, thinking I wanted to teach English as a second language.
Then, when I graduated, I was 20 years old, and Rockton Software hired me to solely do their social media. I’ve morphed into managing the majority of the marketing here. It’s been a whirlwind of learning. I can still say I’m learning to this day, every day, and even more this year, thanks to The Genius Series.
What a great call with our graduating class of geniuses today! Not only did they share what they’ve learned and accomplished over the past year, they passed on the sharing culture by asking participants about list purchases and marketing resources. The genius continues…
Don’t miss out a second time. See what The Genius Series is all about and how this online culture of sharing and learning can make a world of difference in your professional lives!
Once you’ve heard enough, make sure to apply by July 31 to save your spot as one of next year’s geniuses.

Marketing seems to get reinvented and redefined more than any other business focus. I know you’re thinking “spoken like a true marketer”. Just hear me out. My experience is minimal in comparison to those veterans of marketing who seem to have all the answers and remember the days before the internet and back when a direct mail campaign could get you exponential ROI. I have, however, been around long enough to witness not one shift, but many shifts in messaging trends and email do’s and don’ts’ and search engine ‘optimization’ or whatever the new term they call it is.

Over the course of the past nine months, The Genius Series students underwent rigorous online training on topics, such as video marketing, list management, budget planning, sales and marketing alignment, and more. In addition to the wisdom they’ve acquired, this group of marketers has built a long-lasting comradery to share ideas and best practices while they continue on their marketing journeys.
Congratulate these geniuses on social media, address your emails to them with “genius” in the greeting line, or simply bow down to them when you see them at the next event. :)
This is a major achievement and all of these marketers took their work, and their companies, to the next level of marketing! Way to go, geniuses!!
