The most recent #MakeItDyn report: Generational Look at Social Media, opened my eyes to different perspectives on social media. Speaking with professionals about how they use social media and whether they like it or not got me thinking…how do I feel about it?
As a marketer, social media has always been there for me. I know the importance and the purpose behind it all, but until recently, I don’t think I liked it very much. I didn’t give credit where obvious credit was/is due. Even though I am what people would call a millennial, I don’t like sharing my life online. It doesn’t come naturally to me and I’ve quietly resisted it for far too long.
When social media came on the scene, I was in college and it actually made things less social. Ever since, I’ve had a stigma toward it. But now that I’ve chatted with a few peers about it, I’m realizing it’s becoming more social than ever, especially in our business. The Microsoft Dynamics Partner community is a tight-knit group even though we only see each other at events a few times a year. That’s an amazing connection. One that is made stronger with social media.
